http://www.behindthename.com

doesn't give much on that name:

BERTHA - German, English
meaning "bright, famous".

Related names: Berta , Berthe or Birthe.

I wonder about a Roberta turning into a Bertha though?

Good Morning Cathy
Imagine my surprise when I found my name a subject header this morning!
My given name is Robertha (so Wilma you were close) as to why my parents chose that spelling I'm not sure (must pluck up the courage and ask). Could have had something to do with distinguishing between myself and another Roberta in the family.
I come from a family where the names Robert/Robina/Roberta have been used for over 100 yrs.
If I can be of anymore assistance let me know
Regards
Bertha

sorry for not replying. I wasn't informed of any replies.
Just going through my old posts, and found yours.
