I am trying to find out if the following people are brothers.
Robert Gunnion circa 1740 Ruthwell Drumfries
and
George Gunnion crica 1745 Ruthwell Drumfries
Robert is my 6th Great grandfather I have got back to him but cannot find who his parents were or any siblings.
I believe that George is buried along side Roberts wife Mary Gunnion nee Morpath and son James Gunnion in the Kirkyard at Ruthwell which makes me think there is a relationship between Robert and George.
Thanking any help in advance
Hudggy

Hi Huddgy
Sorry, this doesn't answer your question, but I wondered if you knew of these wills on SP? Couldn't resist a search on the name!
Gunnion James 13/10/1838 of Newabbey Kirkcudbright Sheriff Court SC16/41/11 VIEW (£5.00)
(3 pages)
Gunnion Janet 06/01/1778 late in Bailliewhirr Testament Dative and Inventory Wigtown Commissary Court CC22/3/3B VIEW (£5.00)
(4 pages)
I wonder if they are any relation to your ones?
Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Huddgy
Just having a look about. On SP there are 3 Gun*n births in Ruthwell which I'm sure you will know of already :
1 27/01/1760 GUNNION JOHN ROBERT GUNNION/MARY MORPATH M RUTHWELL
2 07/04/1758 GUNNION MARY ROBERT GUNNION/MARY MORPATH M RUTHWELL
3 08/04/1756 GUNNISON JANNET ROBERT GUNNISON/MARGRAT MORPATH F RUTHWELL
this looks like your Robert and his wife?
Found some others - but they were on a web site I'm sure you know about
The GROS website suggests there are records for the period you are interested in:
846. RUTHWELL
846/1 B 1723-1820 M 1807 D 1773-75
846/2 B 1819-54 M 1844-54 D -
When I've been in a similar position, I've looked at OPRs and anything else I can lay my hands on (Kirk Session, wills, etc. even later census, like the 1841) and taken notes on ANY folk with the same or similar names then worked on constructing family groups - sometimes patterns, such as occupations, abodes or naming patterns emerge and give clues as to possible relationships. e.g. Looking at Robert's family, and the names of his children, compare them anything you know of George. e.g. do their eldest sons share the same name? If you know nothing about George at the moment, it might be worth trying to find out what you can about him.
Proving the relationships, even if you have a strong hunch, can be hard going though, if they did not leave much in the way of a document trail.... a day spent at NAS, if you can get there, might be worthwhile too, though there would be no guarantee you'd find anything.
And maybe try:
http://www.dumgal.gov.uk/dumgal/MiniWeb ... openid=949
Though their web page doesn't give much away!! They may have nothing at all whcih would help, but might be worth contacting.
Best wishes and sorry not to offer anything more concrete.
Lesley

Hi Again LesleyB,
I usually do what you have suggested I will try and get more info from Georges ancester in OZ. He is of the same thoughts as myself that it is possible that they were brothers will just have to keep searching.
Thanks again
Hudggy
