Does anyone know if SP have any plans to introduce death records before 1855?
Cheers,

Hi Paul
Others will know more about this than me, I'm sure and may be able to add more detail, but I gather there are plans, but difficulties with the OPRs and indexing I think. It could be a while....
There is no time indicaiton given on SP:

How about the digitisation and indexing of the CH2 & CH3 kirk session and presbytery records held by NAS?Keatley wrote:Thanks Lesley....
After the 51 and 41 Census I need something else to look forward too!
CH2 = the sessional and other records of the Established Church of Scotland.
CH3 = the sessional and other records of the various secession presbyterian churches that eventually rejoined the Auld Kirk in 1929.
Digitisation is either complete or will be so shortly (already on screen at terminals at NAS in Edinburgh), but indexing is only about to start, - first with a pilot project for a single presbytery, maybe synod, to see what the problems and challenges are, as well as assessing various possible methods for indexing. It's a complex subject.
It's likely that individual synods or counties will then become available on ScotlandsPeople in a manner similar to the testaments, but it's a massive project that will necessarily take a few years to complete.
Hopefully, an agreement has recently or will shortly be signed by NAS with the Roman Catholic church authorities to index and eventually make available on line their BMD and other records, mostly starting in the early 1800s.
Is that enough to keep you interested, or do you need to hear more about High Court of Justiciary records, sasines, etc.......
