David Wilson Dickson (as what's on the marriage registration) son of William Dickson and Georgina (Wilson) was born in 1898.
The 1901 census has them at 33 Waterstone Ecclesmachan, West Lothian. Born in Linlithgow.
I'm not finding his birth record?
Can someone point me in the right direction please?
Regards
Donna

Looking for Dickson, Reid, McGill lines in Scotland. Ord and Potter lines in England.

While he was registered as illegitimate, as long as the parents were free to marry when he was born (some authorities argue conceived) then the subsequent marriage of the parents automatically legitimated him, - a rather important difference in Scots Law compared to the situation in England.dmd1164 wrote:What would I do without you JustJean- I've found him. Down as illigitimate. Poor fellow...
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

In such a situation it was open to the parents to return to the registrar following their marriage and have an RCE entry made in connection with the subsequent legitimation by marriage, but this process didn't happen automatically and there was no compulsion nor legal necessity to do so, and only a small proportion of parents appear to have gone through that process.
