Post by jintyb » Thu May 11, 2006 9:29 pm

Hi guys
Now that I've finally mastered the gallery I have uploaded another cert.Death cert.of John Ballantyne.

http://talkingscot.com/gallery/displayi ... p?pos=-541

After the terrific help I got from all you masters, with my last query,I was wondering if anyone could make out the informants surname.
Thanks again for your help.
Best wishes
Janet

Hi

I took the easy route!!

It looks like ABENOLIN

but a marriage search for any Ballantyne marrying any J* Ab* brings up only one.....

and that is indexed as ABERDEIN :!:

Best wishes

Hi Jinty & Jean
Could easily be James Aberdein as stated, some of the letters have an almost Greek style to them - Aberδεin

Best wishes

If John had a sister Janet Wilson Ballantyne who married James Aberdein in 1897 then that's who reported John's death.
Searching for Keogh, Kelly, Fitzgerald, Riddell, Stewart, Wilson, McQuilkin, Lynch, Boyle, Cairney, Ross, King, McIlravey, McCurdy, Drennan and Woods (to name but a few).

Also looking for any information on Rathlin Island, County Antrim, Ireland.

This has to be the most modern register entry on which I've seen these forms of "d" and "e", which, in fact are near enough Secretary Hand style :!:

I'd love to know how old George Russell was

Is the signature not the informant's own handwriting rather than the George Russell's (Assistant Registrar).

All the best,

I wondered why the "de" in ABERDEIN did not resemeble the "de" in usual residence !

According to the MC James Aberdein was 25 in 1897......
