I have been looking for the death of Henry Madden in Glasgow for ages, probably between 1871 and 1881. He was last living in Tradeston with his son John in 1871, but is not on the 1881 census. He was born around 1798 in Ireland and was married to Mary Green. She died in 1861. There are only four deaths on SP for all of Scotland, and one has no image. The others are not him.
Although the age given for the year of death is a little off (63) I would still have liked to see the image. It is noted as:
1875 MADDEN HENRY M 63 / 644/3X 0071 No Image ORDER
No area given, just that slash. Can anyone please explain why there is no image online, and yet I can apparently pay ten pounds to order it? Is someone able to have a peek at the record in order that I at least know if it is worth purchasing?

Hi Nina,
The X-suffix indicates that the record is in a supplementary book. The supplementary books don't seem to be successfully indexed by ScotlandsPeople to link them to the images. I believe the area 644/3X should be a supplementary book within 644/03 - Glasgow (Dennistoun) in 1875.
See viewtopic.php?t=4104 for more information.
Go to ScotlandsPeople and enter a contact form. I would hope that they would send you a copy of the certificate by post.
All the best,
AndrewP

Sorry, there was no application for Henry or his wife that I could see.nelmit wrote:Hello Nina,
If, as Andrew says, it's the Dennistoun area then there is a good chance it was the poorhouse he died in. I'll have a look at The Mitchell index at the weekend.
Kind regards,
Annette M
Although there isn't one for Alexander there appears to be one for his wife Elizabeth made in 1881. Was she born in Paisley in 1815?
This seems to be her in 1881.

Thanks very much for that Annette,
Pity about Henry, but thanks so much for looking anyway.
Yes that is my Elizabeth in the 1881 although son James has had a few years shaved off his age - he should be 28, but Lizzie gives her age as I have it. The occupations are the same as on the 1871.
I would love to see what the poorhouse records say about Elizabeth....I will look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks again

Wow,
Thanks Nelmit, you never fail to come through!
She is most definetly my Elizabeth, and the death I have found for Alexander has those parents (although she is a year off - he died in 1872, but ALL other details fit, including addresses). You have told me a few things I didn't know, for example, that Elizabeth had been married before, as well as exact birthplaces, and that she had a sister Sarah.
THANKS AGAIN!!! I appreciate it so much!
