Post by pinkshoes » Wed May 24, 2006 12:07 am

Can someone with guid e'en please help me decipher the the first part of the cause of death. I think one of the words is superenal (thanks to the archaic medical dictionary mentioned somewhere earlier). I can read the 2nd cause of death fine (poor soul)

I've uploaded the image, fingers crossed it'll work.

Pinkshoes:
cannot read number 1, number 2 seems like ot could be Epilthemia( there are various spellings) of penis 3 months, which I believe is a type of cancerous lesion.

Karen

Hi Pinkshoes

delmarco was right about the EPITHELIOMA of Penis. Rather nasty indeed.

The main disorder relates to the SupraRenal or Adrenal glands which have a variety of functions and gradual failure over 4 years would not be a comfortable way to go.

The initial letter looks like a 'D' but I can't think of many diagnostic medical terms which would fit.

Just shows you though . Awful writing is not the sole prerogative of the medical profession! :D :D

The first word begins with D, but the best I can do with it, is Disicon or Diacon (which are not really words or abbreviations?)of suprarenal bodies 4 years

Just noticed, it wasn't a good week for M.B. Call - he was the attending medic for all 3 people on that page.

I would send a contact e-mail to SP as this is not just bad handwriting but an illegible image. They should then send you a paper copy which should be easier to read.
I am presuming that this is an industrial illness-the cancerous lesion anyway as people presume that it was only lung disease that happened to miners.
The superenal disorder would be an extremely unpleasant disorder & coupled with his cancerous lesion on his penis all I can say is poor soul.
What a horrendous physical & psychological pain.

Thanks everyone for your help. It does seem an injustice that someone who had hardship throughout his life wasn't granted an easier passage at the end. Robert was my great-grandfather, about whom I knew nothing because his first wife died shortly after the birth of my granny - she was brought up by her Mum's sister and if she stayed in touch with her father and siblings I never heard about it. The rest of the weans (and there was a team of them) stayed with Robert and his quickly procured 2nd wife who went on to produce several more. Can't imagine any of them had an easy life - think my granny probably fared best - and I'm sure it was no picnic in the shale mines.

Robert's was the first grave I visited when I started my family history career - an unmarked plot (kindly identified for me by W Lothian Council) - which kinda says it all really. I felt pretty morose that day, staring at a bit of grass with a blue paint blob on it.

Thanks again

Hi Pinkshoes
I know the feeling
You could maybe place a small marker or something on the plot... even just a wee plaque with his name?

]even just a wee plaque with his name-What a fab idea Jim.
It is expensive though so maybe one of those premade ones which you can add data onto.
My Grandpa is buried with his late step-son-nothing to say he is there either just what "MY GRANNY TOLD ME" He died during WW2 in part due to his wounds from WW1& there was no money for a seperate plot or stone which was there for his stepson who was raised by my Granny's parents.I wonder if I could just add his details to the stone? There is plenty of space! [/quote]

Good idea Jim - had I been on my own the day I visited I'd have gone off in search of a wee bunch of flowers, but it was a bitter day and I didn't want to try my companion's patience. However, next time I'm in Scotland I'll go back and have another wee word with Robert (though I expect he was Rab :D ) and I'll see what kind of tribute I can come up with.

I was trying to explain to my husband that genealogists form an affinity with some of our deid folk (well I do anyway) and the memorial I would be looking for would be something between me and Rab to say thank you for enabling me to be here - not a great monument or statue for the world to look at, so I'll be giving it some deep thought  .

Wonder what others think?

Best wishes
