Hi:)
I'm trying to find out the above. All I can uncover from IGI is that he married a Margaret Darroch in 1852 and they had 3 children; the 1861 census lists Margaret ( age 32) Lewis ( age 9), Jane (age 7) and Alexander ( age 5 ). Margaret is listed as a widow. I can find no record of the husband's, Alexander, death. I've uploaded the 1861 census and will post it here once its been approved.

Hi Dennis,
Assuming that all was as plain as it seems, Alexander Deans (senior) should show up in the statutory death registrations. Alexander (junior) made his appearance in May 1856 according to the online IGI. The assumption is that Alexander senior was dead as his widow said to the census enumerator, and that he died in Scotland.
All the best,
AndrewP

Hi Andrew,
I'm afraid that Alexander Dean (senior) doesn't appear in the deaths in the 1855-1862 range on SP; neither does he appear on any census of 1861, 1871, or 1881. On Lewis Dean's MC, which I've uploaded, the dad is deceased. I can't quite make out all the Witness info on the record, so I've uploaded it and it will go here when its been approved.

Have you viewed the 1859 death of an Alexander Dean in Lanark(shire)?
Remember to tick the 'Include Unrecorded Ages' box.
Kind regards,
Annette M

Yes I have looked at that one Alexander John Dean in Blythswood, who was single and about 3 yrs old when he passed away. If that was the one you were referring to.
Much appreciated though

Re: Whatever became of Alexander Dean?
Hi Dennis,
This isn't helping any with the DC of Alexander DEAN, but was his mother named Susan?
Can only see one suitable Alexander in the 1841 & 1851 censuses.
(but you possibly already have him in those years)
And just curious on this, did Lewis DEAN change his name from Dennis?

Hello Jack.
I see what you mean about the Lewis/ Dennis Dean but have yet to probe there. I've uploaded the 1841 census for the Darroch family and will post the url here after approval. It looks from the census that the dad, Duncan, is serving in the army in Ireland and holds some rank.

So far I have no info on Alexander Dean (senior) birth, death, parents, siblings.

I think it says Halfpay Army - hopefully one of the people here with military knowledge can add some meaning to that.

Hi Dennis,
Some censuses for you to ponder over, but it does seem this Susan DEAN(s) could've been a widow by 1841.
Usefully she was still living in 1861, so her DC should be in the Statutory Records.

ps, meant to say; i don't know if this IS your Alexander, but i can't see any other in the area to suit.
