Hello Ellen - have you managed to find Margaret's death? That might give you a clue about what area to look. Do you know what year she was born - narrows it down on Scotlands People. It's sometimes easier to search for a female by cross-checking the surname and maiden name. I can only find 5 Margaret Anderson/M*c*La*l*n between 1898 and 1955 - one of them is in Greenock, Renfrew in 1927, but no idea if that would be her.

It's quite possible Robert (Margaret too) lived beyond 1955, in which case you'd need a search at Register House to get the information.

Don't think that helps a great deal, but it's the best I can come up with - no doubt others will have some brighter ideas.

Best wishes

Hi Ellen
As pinkshoes was saying, there may be a clue to help you then, on the death entry of your gr grandmother in 1927.

Was she stated as "WIFE of" or "WIDOW of" Robert Anderson? If she is "wife of" then that would suggest Robert was still alive at that time. If, on the other hand, she is "widow of" then that would suggest that Robert had died before 1927.

Best wishes
Lesley

Ellen - you mentioned in your message to me last night that it looked as though Robert was alive in 1927 when Margaret died.

As Lesley says, the wording on the certificate is important in helping to establish if Robert was still alive.

I wondered if maybe he'd gone to live with his daughter after his wife died? Do you know anything about Margaret jnr - she obviously married someone called Johnstone before 1927. Supposing she was born just after her parents married, we're looking at a marriage from about 1917 - 1927. There is only one Margaret Anderson marriage to a Johns*on* - Glasgow City in 1917. This might be muddying the water, but if you don't have Margaret's marriage details it would at least be another bit of the puzzle - if it's her

Do you know if Robert and Margaret had any other children?

I think though, it's highly possible we're looking at a post 1955 death?

Best wishes
