Hi Thomsos
Have you been using wildcards for Eli*bet* Thom*son.
Wish they had standardised spelling 100 years ago (or would it have been 'standardized' then ?)

Hi thomsos
Yup you're right there are a lot of them. In order to narrow up the search I chose to locate Hugh and Agnes on the 1891 census. Even though they were married just a few months before in Dennistoun you'll find Hugh quite easily (there aren't too many to choose from since you know his age from his MC) and he's living in Camlachie. Trouble is his wife is not at home...but the occupation matched so I felt sure it was the right guy. Looking for Agnes in Camlachie brings her up easily too as there is only one of the correct age....she just happens to be at the home of her mother! OK....so now geared up for a search for the birth of Elizabeth in Camlachie in 1894 is quite straightforward....she's there!
Best wishes
Jean

Re: birth
Hello thomsos,
pipped at the post! Slightly different technique: Hugh was deceased by his daughter's wedding, and there were only 2 deaths between 1890 (when he married Agnes) and 1916. That narrowed down a district and probable year for Elizabeth's birth.
Unfortunately, his unusual occupation reminded me of painful root-canal dentistry that I had carried out a couple of years ago. The product that he worked with is still used today.
Regards,
John
