Hello all,
I'm sure someone must have the answer to this one. I've got a Death Record from the SP site, it has a notation on the left column and as well there is nothing in the cause of death column. How can I find the contents of the notation ? I does refer to a date that is about two weeks after the death occured.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

A pound to a penny says that this is an RCE entry reference.HeatherV wrote:Hello all,

When a death was sudden, e.g. dropped dead in the street, or violent, -criminal or accidental, - the details were referred to the Procurator Fiscal for him to establish the cause of death, and decide if any formal legal process, inquest or criminal case, was required. Most often the contents of the RCE entry will simply be confirmation of the cause of death, place and time etc.
At the moment the only way of getting the RCE content is to order an extract, which should have typed on the back of it the text of the RCE entry; or find SKS who is going to be in NRH and will transcribe it.
Hopefully, RCE entry images linked to the statutory register entry will come on line at SP later this year, but there's a problem or two to be solved, not least of how to arrange this link when there has been a considerable time period between the original register entry and the RCE - I've come across 60 years!, - and the registration reference number has changed in the interim ........ sometimes more than once.
