Trying to find birth cert. Edinburgh.....

Still hunting for answers regarding my grandfather & gt. grandmother & very grateful for any & all help :D
Have traced gt. grandmother as far as Lubriach, nr. Contin ( thank you Andrew I now know where that is!) in the census for 1861, aged 18 & living with her family, father William, a shepherd & mother Mary nee Moffat. Ann gave birth to James on the 4th Jan 1868, was listed as unmarried & named the father as William Reid, but I can't find her in a census. I have tried SP & FS but no birth certs. although they are listed in the LHS Archives. Ann then vanishes & gdfather is listed in 1871 with a family Peterson at 48, Buccleuch St Edinburgh as a boarder where he lived until he joined The Royal Scotts.
ANY help or if some kind person could do a look up I would be very grateful. Desperatly trying to solve the family mystery :!: Would love to know who gdfather's father was and what happened to his mother :?

I'm a bit lost here :
Ann is the daughter of William & Mary (m.s. Moffat)
Ann had a child called James - she was unmarried & the child's father was named as William Reid. Where was James born?

But what was Ann's surname?
I have tried SP & FS but no birth certs. although they are listed in the LHS Archives.
Whose birth cert are you searching for? James or Ann?
And I'm not sure what LHS archives are - did you mean LDS or have you found a birth somewhere else? Could LHS = Lothians History Society?

Lesley I assume it Ann / James Angus

In 1881 James Angus is still with the Petersons ? at 9 Orwell Place Edinburgh
And possibly Ann Angus his mother is still unmarried and a servant/cook at 8 Glenorchy Terrace St Cuthberts, Edinburgh.

Which census cant you find them on ? I wont copy all the 1881 in case you have it or i am looking at the totally wrong people !
