ooohhh...eerrrr!.....

Post by ninatoo » Mon Jul 17, 2006 3:37 am

Hi all,

I have just been going over some family papers and found something interesting, and a little disturbing!

My grandparents divorced in 1946. I have the papers for that, and in reading through them, I found that my grandfather stated that he thought my grandmother had changed my dad's (his son's) name! He says the surname was changed to Easton...but there has also been a wee story in the family that there was disagreement about my dad's christian name, and one of them changed it, then the other went back and changed it back! No, it doesn't seem to have been a good marriage/divorce :? .

Well here is my request...based on the assumption that a good family story always seems to have a grain of truth in it. I was wondering if anyone could have a look for me at the registry offices? I am guessing that if Dad's name was formally changed then there should also be a RCE for it too. Or more than one change...or more than one RCE? :D

Edited: Sorry, was advised to edit out my dad's details, you would think I would know better after all this time....well, anyway, if anyone would like to try looking at this record for me, please PM me!

Here's hoping someone can have a peek for me...I am so curious!!!

The lack of replies probably means it doesn't look like anyone is going there any time soon unfortunately. If you can afford it and want the information sometime soon it might be worth asking a professional. For one RCE lookup I wouldn't imagine it would cost too much.

Thank you very much setait! I really appreciate it.

For those reading, there was no RCE. My Dad was registered under his correct known name, which is just as well :) . Setait did look for the other names I mentioned, in case there were two registrations for the one child, but found nothing. It's all okay, I am fine with it, and it puts another family story to bed!

An interesting aside is that after I posted this query, my Dad found his baptismal certificate and that one is interesting. His mother gave him the christian names she wanted to on that one, with the father's surname...so in a way she got her two cents worth in there, didn't she? And THIS may have been where all the stories started...

Hmmm...Dad was registered about seven weeks after birth...was this late?
