Help with deciphering, please.....

I have uploaded a file to the gallery, I need some help with deciphering.

The marriage of James Orr Craig & Agnes Draine.

The address of the Groom - 29 Milburn Road Gillingham, is the next word Kent?

The maiden name of the bride's mother, looks like Mewart or Hearust??

A fresh pair of eyes would be appreciated.

Havnt seen your certificate yet but Gilliham is definitly in Kent so its highly likely it does say Kent.

Now having read it its 100% Kent.

Agree with Tracey..........it is Kent

Real trouble trying to make out the mother's maiden name.

However on SP there is only 1 death for a Jane Draine in Greenock. It is in 1909 and age is 58. Could that be her?

If so the death cert should show her maiden name, if it was known to the informant.

Looks like mothers name is Stewart.

Thank you all, I knew fresh eyes would set me straight.

James Orr Craig is the first of my Scottish relations that seems to have ventured across the border, so that has to have been between 1901 & 1903, as he is in Greenock for the 1901 census.

With the suggestion of Stewart, I have looked closely at the entry, and It does appear to be Stewart.

Merlot, I notice you have Cameron, McMillan & Gray, names I am also researching, any chance yours were from Renfrewshire, in particular Greenock & Port Glasgow?

Sorry for the delay in replying to your question, I couldn't remember which post it was in

Cameron - Lochwinnoch (I think)

Gray - Originally Alexandria but one was in greenock in the early 1840's

McMillan - Originally Campbeltown but later were in Neilston.

Hi Maggie
Here are instructions for uploading an image to the gallery:

You have to be logged into Talking Scot, and then.....

1. Scroll up the page & click on the Gallery link at the top of this page

In the Gallery page:
2. Click on the Upload File link at the top of the page.

Under the File Uploads section:
3. Click the Browse button.
This will open a dialog box which will let you look for the file that you wanted to upload to TS. It makes life easier for you if you have saved this file to somewhere obvious like “Desktop” or “My Documents” or wherever you usually store your family history files.

4. When you have located the file, double click on it.
In the File Uploads box you should now see the “path” to the file e.g.
C:\Documents and Settings\Lesley\Desktop\ElginVillas.jpg
(This just means the TS website now knows where to collect your file from!)

5. Click on the Continue button at the bottom of this page.
Your file will now be uploaded and you should see a message:
1 uploads were successful.
Please click 'Continue' to add the files to albums.

6. Click the Continue button

7. You should now see a page where you can add more details about the image if needed - if not needed, just click Continue

8. You should now see a page with the message:
The previous file was placed successfully.
You have successfully placed all the files.


9. Click the Continue button.
You will be taken back to the main Gallery page (where you started, but you will probably have forgotten what it looked like by now! )

You then have to wait for approval from someone on the TS Admin Group who will post your image in the gallery, and either they or some other kind soul will then paste the link to your image in the body of your post. If no link appears in your post within 24hrs, but you know the image upload was successful just post a message and someone will help!
