Receipt for Certificate - but NO Cert !.....

Post by WilmaM » Wed Mar 30, 2005 5:09 pm

I was rumaging through my Gran's 'BLACK BOX' [ wherein lies all the old cerificates, insurance, soliciter's letters etc - every family should have one ;)]on Monday.

I found amongst the papers a receipt for a birth certificate, but no matching certificate.
It was dated 15/4/1948 and was issued by the Govan Reg. Office
The reference on it is 1713/45 and under discription there are further numbers - B.E. T8 K13382 .

The real mystery is - there was nobody born in 1948, in the family that I know of ! last 'child' was 1945 and 1st grandchild 1950.

So..... does anyone know if these reference numbers would match a certificate reference system at NRH or what ?

Is this maybe a copy of an older certificate or a skeleton jangling away in the cupboard

It could be a receipt for an extract of an already issued certificate. That's my best suggestion anyway.

All the best,

I'd suspect entry number 1713 in 1945, - was the birth in that year quite late in the year?

No idea on B.E. T8 K13382
