Kilmarnock records

I`ve been searching (with no luck so far) for the birth of two Samson brothers in Kilmarnock around 1829 - 1833. I've looked on the IGI, SP and Hugh Wallis' batch records.

I noticed on the HW batch record for Kilmarnock that there are very very few records for males. Does this mean they were not recorded, have not survived, have not been transcribed??

Can anyone shed some light on this please??? thanks in advance!

Hello Carmen

This is a quote from a previous post on TS by AndrewP/DWW which may answer your question.

"Note that some parishes have only the female births shown on the online IGI. (male and female births are on the original microfiche IGI, and the CD version available at LDS Family History Centres, but for some parishes, the male births are not on the online version). "

Hi Carmen,
Mentioned yer post at the Kirk yesterday, as Samson is a weel kent name in Ayrshire and Ulster.
Just got an E-mail in the noo.
Asking about the Given names of your ain folk.
The D'Arcy and Grieve families are linked to the Antrim and Ayrshire Samsons.

My Samsons are from Kilmarnock:
Thomas Samson born around 1829 - 1833, married Margaret Grieve on 20 Nov. 1852. His father was Peter Robertson Samson born 1806 in Sorn Ayr. I have recently found out that Thomas had a brother James born roughly at the same time.

The 1841 census for Kilmarnock is on Freecen.
Both Thomas aged 12 and James aged nine are there, living in Bank Street.
No sign of any other family.
Thomas is on the 1881:

thanks for the translation Davie!
I had seen the 1841 census and I guess it must be them.
In the 1881 census, I found Thomas living in East Greenock with his wife Margaret and two sons.
James (Thomas' brother) emigrated to Australia in 1851.

I have never heard of any D'Arcy connections - what year would this be approx?

It was Thomas' from the 1881 I meant to post you. At Belville Street Greenock.
I am pretty certain that it is James and Thomas on the 1841.
Can you make out the name of the Family they are living with?
It was when I was having lunch in Fenwick on Sunday, that I mentioned your post.
One of the Lads there, does a bit of Ayrshire research.
He mentioned the Darcy (Irish descent) and Grieve, with a Samson connection.
I was surprised when you came back with a Grieve in your line.
I am waiting for some more info.
