Post by David Lang » Sun Oct 01, 2006 4:13 pm

I am trying to decipher the surname of John McLachlan's Informant?

I think it is his Daughter Peggy or Margaret McLachlan but i cant make out her surname

Best Guess is Harris or Parris ?

Cheers

Hi David

Can you upload the certificate to the gallery and then we can have a go at deciphering for you.

Hi David,

I'll take a best guess at the informant as Margaret Harris, daughter.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi David

Although inclined to agree with the previous posters, since there is no uppercase 'H' to compare it with I wouldn't rule out Purvis as a possibility either.

Hi David,

Thought I'd look on IGI for you to see if there was a matching marriage or any children for Margerat. Couldn't find any marriage so did a parent search using HARRIS in fathers last name and MARGARET for mothers name and just tried a few common first names. Didn't find any but as your last name is LANG I was wondering if mayby this has something to do with your lot?

JAMES LANG HARRIS b 25 Mar 1873 Renfrew, parents WILLIAM TAYLOR HARRIS and MARGARET LANG.

Hi Karen probably wont be as the McLachlans link into my Scally Line who dont link into the langs till around 1900s.

Cant seem to find any trace of Margaret , she may have emigrated ?
