Hello. I have a Janet Wright ( nee Ure ) whose parents are listed on her death rec as George Ure & Elizabeth Adams. LDS shows them as her parents; however, when I look at when George Ure & Elizabeth Adams married I get multiple hits from various dates & places in Stirling. So I don't know which is the correct date & location of the parents' marriage.

Which is the correct marriage date for Janet Ure's parents?.

Wilma!! Thank for that piece of info. I had not been aware of extraction vs submission before; I will be most alert to it in the future. I've gone over all of the people in my 373 people tree who had any records prior to 1855; there were some more which are now taken care of.
My next project; go over all the records, post 1855, & note all the ones which have an RCE; I'd only started noting them in the past week or so, sigh.

In addition to the submitted/extracted aspect, there are often two separate OPR records of a marriage in Scotland.
This happened when the bride and groom came from different parishes, so that the marriage required to be recorded in both, although that didn't always happen.
Normally the earlier date is the parish where the marriage ceremony actually took place, but that can't be relied on 100%. Another factor to take into account is that the strong Scottish tradition was for the marriage to take place in the parish of residence of the bride.
It definitely was the case that it was a requirement for the banns to be proclaimed in both parishes, - and remember that many of the OPR records are of the calling of the banns, not the actual marriage. A fair proportion of ministers/session clerks were quite lax in making a later annotation that the marriage had taken place on such and such a date. In other words, the absence of the date for the marriage itself in an OPR entry relating to the banns cannot be taken as meaning that the marriage didn't take place.

Hi Dennis,
Are you still looking for information about George Ure and Elizabeth Adam?
You may already have this (from the British Vital Records):
Children born to George Ure and Elizabeth Adam: (All Larbert)
Alexander, christened 16th August 1791
James, christened 5th January 1793
Ann, christened 23rd June 1794
John, born 3rd September 1796, christened 11th September 1796
George, born 21st September 1798, christened 30th September 1798
Janet, born 30th June 1801, christened 4th July 1801
Parents George and Elizabeth Adam have a stone in Larbert Old Parish Churchyard with the date 1796 on the top. This date could be when they bought the lair or when one of their children died.
Have you followed up any of their children?
There are many more Ure's in this Churchyard but whether they're related, I don't know.
I'll have a go at attaching a photo of the stone.
