Morning To All,

I been searching for James Foster b. 1854 aberdeen, cant locate, as his father was a seaman, thought maybe he was registered at a later date or maybe not at all.

1854 was the year before Statutory Registration, so the birth is more likely to be in the OPRs, with one exception that I can think of - if you man was born late December 1854, there is always a slim chance he may not have been registered until 1855!

Do you know what his parents' names were? Perhaps the 1861 census might be useful to see, if you have not already. It may seem a silly question but how do you know he was born in 1854 in Aberdeen if you have not been able to find his birth? Have you worked it out from some other document(s), such as a census or his marriage?

I have death & marriage certificate,only found him on one census 1881 b. Peterhead aberdeen.fathers name John mother Janet or Jessie Campbell.

Thats about all I know

There seem to be two births on IGI to this couple -do they tally with what you have found in the census at all?

Father: John Foster, Mother: Jessie Campbell

Gender: Male Birth: 15 APR 1858 Peterhead, Aberdeen, Scotland

2. JANE FOSTER - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 24 JAN 1856 Peterhead, Aberdeen, Scotland

If it were me I'd be chasing that 1861 census - several small children and Joseph Foster does not strike me as a frequent name. Hmmm... there is one Joseph Foster in 1861, aged 2yrs on Scotlands People in Aberdeen(shire) - not Peterhead though. I'd not be able to resist that one if it were my lot, though there is no guarantee it is your family.
