1906 Birth Records
Hello All:
I have been lurking here for awhile and have decided to jump in and post a question. Forgive me if this has been brought up before. My grandfather, Peter Gibson Young, was born in 1906 in possibly Edinburgh or somewhere in Ayrshire.
I recall reading somewhere that the 1906 birth records will be released in January 2007. Is that correct or did I imagine it?
Peter was born in 1906 and by 1928, he had emigrated to Winnipeg, Canada. He and my grandmother Edith Mary FULLER (b. 1908 possibly in Burdiehouse?) were married circa 1929. In August of 1969, he and my grandmother were returning for the first time to Scotland and he had a heart attack on the plane and passed away. Very sad story.
Thanks very much for any advice and help!

Re: 1906 birth records
Hello Heather,
welcome to TalkingScot, and I am sure that one of the "staff" of TS will welcome you as well.
Current cut-off periods for births, marriages, and deaths are 100, 75, and 50 years respectively, so 1906, 1931, and 1956 events will be on the site in January 2007. Unless last-minute problems arise, they will be there very early in the new year.
Regards,
John

Hello Heather
A very warm welcome to Talkingscot.
I hope that you manage to find your grandfather's b.c. in January.
When you find this it will show you the date of his parents marriage.
When you find this m.c. it should show you the names of their parents and get you back another generation.
Best wishes
Jean

Hi Heather,
Welcome to talkingscot. You will find the folks here friendly and eager to help whenever they can.
What part of Cincinnati do you live in? I lived there for 12 years, just headed back to California 4 1/2 years ago. I lived in the Carpenter's Creek subdivision in Evendale. My daughter and her family live in West Chester. Great place to raise children.
Once again welcome.
Regards,
Ina

Hello Again!
Thanks to all for the kind responses - I didn't realize the birth records held so much useful information! I can't wait - I don't know much about my grandfather at all. Every little bit helps!
Ina: I am in the Western Hills/Bridgetown area - about a minute from the Western Bowl. I really like the West Chester and Evendale areas - it seems like there's lots to do and see.
Everyone have a great day!

Hi Heather
With that great help you have had from Ted we can now find out the following:-
Got to www.familysearch.org Click on Advanced Search. To the right of the page enter the parents names of Alexander Young and you will find not only Alexander date of birth - 1869 - but also that of his brother! His forename is Dewar. Both born in Roxburgh.
Do the same with Agnes Gibson's parents names and you will find her birth in 1874 in Kirkcaldy.
From this information I searched for them in the 1881 census and this looks like both families:-
Dwelling: 9A Kerr Street
Census Place: Edinburgh St Cuthberts, Edinburgh, Scotland

PS If you are familiar with the familysearch site then you will find the marriages of James Young and Margaret Dewar in 1868 and Peter Gibson and Elizabeth Gourlay in 1873. You can then get these marriage certs from Scotlandspeople and get back a further generation.
Any problems, just ask. We'll help out if you need us to.

Thank you so much!
Ted and Jean:
I am sitting here in Ohio in grateful tears! I cannot tell you how humbled I am by the kindness of strangers - oh my gosh, you have given me the best Christmas present ever! Thank you so, so very much!
I had suspected that Charles Fuller and Jane Bruce were my grandmothers parents, but was missing the birth certificate to link everyone together. He is actually English from Dover and was stationed in Rosyth during WW1. I was lucky enough to find his Seaman Records.
I had very little to go on with Youngs (there's just a few of them in Edinburgh! :>) I have been basically printing off everything with Youngs and Gibsons from SP, so this is just wonderful news.
Ted, if you have time and wouldn't mind taking a picture of 15 Bank Street, I will be eternally grateful.
Now, if I can just talk my husband into taking a trip across the pond....:>)
Thank you again to you both for the information....this is just amazing!

Hi Heather
Everyone here at TS will be delighted for you - we all know how great it can be to have a good breakthrough - glad you found some help here. I'll be happy to take a photo of number 15 Bank Street for you - I'll get it in the next few days - I'll wait for a clear day - the whole of the south side of Bank Street is devoted to landscaped gardens - very beautiful - the north side is all shops with some flats above.
I have pasted in some links here with info on the town and surrounding area where you ancestors lived - one of them has a gallery of photos with a very good shot of Bank Street. I'll also do some seaches for you here - I might just be able to get a photo or two of how Bank Street looked around 1902.

Hi Heather
So glad things have turned out well for you. I expect the old credit card will get some hammering now on Scotlandspeople, as you find all the certificates you are looking for. Don't forget the censuses, as they often hold interesting information about where they lived, occupations and sometimes the odd grandchild or two pops up!!
Happy hunting and a very Merry Xmas to you
Best wishes
