help finding the Scobie family please

Post by dmd1164 » Tue Jan 09, 2007 11:47 pm

I have a marriage registration for Thomas McGill and Jane Scobie from 22/06/1870. Jane's parents are listed as Joseph Scobie and Margaret Stewart - having touble locating the Scobies on SP - have also tried LDS and Ancestry.com - any suggestions???

Jane's address at the time High Street, Glasgow. Martha and William Scobie were down as witness'.

Thomas' address was listed as Eddingston?

Regards
Donna

With the use of wildcards...

07/01/1832 SCOBBIE JOSEPH MARGARET STEWART/FR777 M OLD MONKLAND 652/00 0003

Sound like them? If it is, you might find them on the 1841 census

Hi Donna,
Not too sure if you have the SCOBIE family in these censuses?
Just brief details as the names are from indexes, and below is how they are spelled in them.
A look at the original pages would be needed to see what they actually say.

Hi Donna,

Old Monkland is one of the many parishes where only the female births from the OPRs are listed on the online IGI. So a parent search of this family gives these daughters.

JANET SCOBBIE - Christening: 17 AUG 1834 Old Monkland, Lanarkshire
MARGARET SCOBBIE - Christening: 01 MAR 1840 Old Monkland, Lanarkshire
ANNE SCOBBIE - Christening: 12 JUN 1842 Old Monkland, Lanarkshire
JEAN SCOBBIE - Christening: 13 APR 1845 Old Monkland, Lanarkshire
MARY STEWART SCOBBIE - Birth: 18 MAR 1847 Old Monkland, Lanarkshire

All the best,

AndrewP

Yes all a bit confusing - I can't find Jane's birth records on SP??? Will keep looking.

Do you know if the 1841 & 1851 scotland census on Ancestry.com is complete???
