Where to next!

Post by suzyblu » Thu Feb 08, 2007 4:27 am

I am new to this and just have stupid question to ask but I have traced back to early 1800s and I have found the OPR but doesn't state the parents, so what next, is it only the census I look up?

Hello Susan!
No question is stupid here! If you could be a bit more specific, someone might be able to suggest something. Do you mean that you have found a birth record with no parents listed for the child? Was it on Scotland's People or on the IGI?
All the best,
Sarah

Hi thanks

I have a few marriage certs from OPR - scotlandspeople ranging from 1820 to 1850 but has they don't have parents names on them, is my only option to go through all the census?

Another approach is to find their death certificates and hope that their parents' names are given correctly there. The bride's death certificate should be the easier to find as you have the option to search by both of her surnames. From that you should find whether she is listed as married or widowed. Then you should have a narrower time frame and possible location or at least area to start searching for the groom's death.

All the best,
