can anyone help i cant find out when my ggradmother died she was on the 1851 census in south leith but not on 1861 have tried looking but cant find her,jane morgan maiden name marshall i know in 1873 when her husband died it had widower of jane marshall thank you for any help given

Hi Joyce:

Have you checked the OPR section on ScotlandsPeople? There are 8 Jane Morgans dying between 1851 and 1854, but only if you select all locations. Perhaps she wasn't in South Leith at the time of her death.

i have tried to put in 1851 to 1854 but nothing happens have had alook on what i have but shes not there can anyone tell me were im going wrong as the deathes start from 1855,thank you

Hi Joyce:

On the SP search page there are Statutory Records, Old Parish Records, Census, and Will & Testaments.

I was suggesting that you search in the purple column Old Parish Records, where marriages prior to 1855 can be searched.

You might even want to enter Ja* in the first name field, as that will give you 9 names, at the same cost.

The OPRs are primarily Church of Scotland records, so hopefully she's there.

I think there's a misunderstanding here... Frances, you told Joyce there were 8 deaths between 1851 and 1854, then directed her to the marriage OPRs No wonder she is a bit confused!
