Kirk Sessions

Post by HeatherH » Thu Mar 01, 2007 3:02 pm

Hello there,
I have in the past come across references to rellies in Kirk Session Indexs. I was wondering if someone in the know would be so kind as to tell those of us who haven't a clue how to search for such information. How to see the actual entry and what cost would be involved should we not be fortunate enough to live in Auld Scotia and a little about what items would be found there .eg irregular marriages or illigit weans.
Ta,
HeatherH

NAS holds or knows the location of kirk session records.

Most of those at NAS have been digitised, but a pilot indexing project has hit major problems, and it's likely to be a while, possibly several years, before the images come on line, initially the ScottishDocuments site, then ScotlandsPeople.

Contents? - you name it in terms of human fallibility, it in there, illegitimate wains, irregular marriages, inappropriate activities on the Sabbath Day such as whistling :!: and much much more .....................

Hi
I have put a pic "Stool" in the gallery, which you may find of interest.
Of a Kirk Session Meeting.

http://talkingscot.com/gallery/displayi ... ?pos=-1103

The Painting is entitled "Stool of Repentance"
I only found out a week or so there is a game of the same name

Have any of our members ever come across it?
If so, from what county or even country.
I knew of the tune.

I've never heard of such a game Davie, although I have heard about the stool.

The 'Home Truth' is, we never had to invite an insult. In a family of six, there were more than enough volunteers who were happy to do it, without prompting :!:
