Help on a Marriage and Birth

Looking for any further information on the following:

Marriage - Barnet Lando to Augusta Titmuss. Year 1901. Place Ayr.

Birth - Bertram Lando. Year 1902. Place Lanark.

Not sure if you've visited www.Scotlandspeople.gov.uk yet for an online search of these. You'll have to purchase a few credits in order to obtain digital images of the originals but it would be money well spent!!

The birth is registered in 1902 as LEWIS BERTRAM LANDO and it's found in Calderhead. From this you'll see his parents exact date of marriage so it should be a simple process to locate that next. Be wary of spellings though......always best to use wildcards so that you don't waste credits or come up empty handed in your searches.

What a fascinating couple, an Actor and an Actress, living in the town of New Cumnock at the time of their marriage ............

Not easy to find in the 1901 census, but near certain to be the 18 year old Actor (Dramatic), indexed as Barnett LANDS, and not born in Scotland, unless there's a parish in Fife that I wasn't aware of with a name the same as a city in the NE of England

The name as shown on the marriage register entry could equally well be LANDS rather than LANDO........... except that, on re-visiting the record the registrar clearly forms a trailing "s" differently from an "o" .......

It is good to see someone else searching for Lando's, what is your connection? I have downloaded both these certificates in the past to see if there was any connection with my Lando family, have not found any so far.
My gggrandfather was John Lando who came from Genoa Italy in 1850 at 14 years old stowing away on a ship as our family story tells us. We have also been told that 3 brothers came to these islands together and then went their separate ways.

Hoping there is a connection.

Hi Maggie,

Barnet and Augusta Lando were my Great Grandparents on my father's side.

They had 4 children: Bertram, Laurie, Beryl (my Grandmother) and Philip.

Barnet may have had a younger brother named Benn, but we're finding it difficult to find proof of this at the moment.

The Scottish link has only just been made after a comment made to us by Peter Landau, Philip's son.

There is Lewis Lando and wife Annie (Barnett Lando parents?) living in Wales on the 1901 Census with daughters Ester aged 20 and Rachael aged 16. Lewis age 54 was born in Russia. Ester and Rachael were born in Durham.

On the 1891 Leeds Census there is also an Israel Lando age 61 also born in Russia.
Was Barnett Lando born Bernard in 1882 as I cannot find a Barnett birth?

I have found a Joseph Lando who died at Stockton, Durham in September 1891 at the age of 70, but I cannot find any other details, is he connected to your family as there are many Lando/Landow children born in Stockton.

The names of the parents, - Lewis and Annie, an exact match to the "Annie", - the births of the daughters in 1881/80 and 1884/84, are so close to the info we have on Barnet[t] and his early 1880s birth as to lead me to believe that we've found his parents........... my only remaining problem is the 1901 Scottish census entry for the place of birth of Barnet[t] as Durham, but then there's a LANDO connection there as well

I have spent many hours trying to see if this connection was correct.

But it seems that the Stockton Lando’s came from Russia and may not be related to my John Lando who came from Genoa Italy as shown on each Scottish Census and also our family stories that he was and spoke Italian.

Looks like the Durham connection may not work out, but how about that Welsh 1901 census entry ?, which seems to be a near perfect fit to Steve's original query.

It looks like your Barnett Lando age 11 is in Flimby Lodge Workhouse School in 1891 with other Lando's
Mary Hannah aged 14
Elizabeth aged 11
and another aged 9 looks like Thomas but it is down as a girl.
