Can you help find Margaret Mitchell?

Post by delmarco » Wed Apr 11, 2007 3:30 am

Hello all:

Trying to find little Margaret Mitchell, she was born dec 13, 1859. I can see her and her parents James and Roseann, in Old Monkland on the 1861 census, she is absent on the 1871 census in Cambuslang, Im assuming she passed away, but im coming up empty on a D/C on SP. Any ideas??

Thanks
Karen
Make it a great day!

Karen - I just can't resist - she's "Gone With the Wind" I'll have a look and see if I can find her.

Hi Karen:

There are 4 death registers for Margaret Mitchell, female, born 1859, All Records, All Districts, who died between 1861 and 1871 - you might be able to narrow it down by including her Mother' maiden surname.

An 1871 census search for Margaret Mitchell, female, age range 12 - 12, All Districts:

- All Records produces 12 hits
- Old Monkland produces 1 hit
- Cambuslang produces 0 hits

At 12, she could have been in service, or gone back to live or help out family who were still living in Old Monkland. That could account for her not being with her parents.

An 1881 census search for Margaret Mitchell, female, age range 22 - 22, Birth place Old Monkland produces only 1 hit, and allows including the address, if known, as a search term.

Frances:

Thanks, I didnt give thought to her not living with her family. I have them in 1881 and she is absent as well. I checked out the deaths, not hers, I'll take that as good news for now. I'll check out the others on the census'
