I can't find a dedath record on SP

Post by Brenda » Sun Apr 15, 2007 1:26 am

No matter how I try I am unable to find a death record on Scotlands People for John McCracken, Born abt 1835 Colmonell Ayrshire. Married to Agnes Miller [1865] and to Elizabeth Gibbon /Gibben 1874

His parents were John McCracken & Janet McCreadie / McReady.
He signed the birth record for his son, Robert in 1885, on Robert's marriage certificate in 1910 it states his father as deceased. I've tried the stat records and old parish records. Any suggestions please.

Hi Brenda :D
I've been looking through your other posts, trying to get this family straight  I may have missed this before and you already have it, but could this be Robert in 1891? Did his mother remarry William Cooper? Looks like he had children from a previous marriage also.

1891
12 Pine St, Glasgow Govan
William Cooper, 50, head, born Shire, Dumbarton, Labourer
Elizabeth Cooper, 40, wife, born Girvan, Ayrshire
William Cooper, 17, son, born Kirkoch, Stirlingsh, Apprentice Boiler Miln
Clement Cooper, 10, son, born Kirkoch, Stirlingsh, Scholar
Margt McCracken, 16, daur, born Lan'ksh, Glasgow, Confectioner's Worker
Thos McCracken, 14, son, born Lan'ksh, Glasgow, Van Boy
Janet McCracken, 12, daur, born Lan'ksh, Glasgow, Home Assistant
Robert McCracken 5, son, born Lan'ksh, Glasgow

In that case it narrows down the date of John's death somewhat. I'm not having much luck finding it though...

All the best,
Sarah

Edit later: There is an Elizabeth McCracken who married William Cooper in 1891 in Hutchesontown, Lanark to be found on Scotland's People.

Second Edit even later: You'll find John's death in Hutchesontown in 1886. The main thing is, he kept up the story of his age until the end  Maybe Elizabeth really didn't know his real age!

THANK YOU so much Sarah.

On Robert McCracken's marriage certificate to Elizabeth Gibben it states his parents as John McCracken [ dec] & Elizabeth Couper/Cooper ,[ formerly McCracken.]
So this ties in. Now I know that Robert wasn't an only child.

Many, many thanks
