James Sutherland.....

Hello all,

It's been very quiet here today so I thought I'd post one of my brick walls .

James Sutherland, according to the 1871 census, was born in Kildonan, Sutherland about 1828. His wife Jane Fraser died in February 1871.

In 1874 his son George marries Jeanie McLeod in Barrhead, Renfrew and according to marriage entry James is still alive.

In 1881 George is living in Edinburgh with his wife, children and youngest siblings.

His brother Donald and sister Anne (my husband's g. gran) are also living in Edinburgh.

There is no sign of James in the 1881 census so I presume he is dead but I've been searching and viewing likely images for over a year now and cannot find his death entry.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

his age was a bit out, but 52-year old James Sutherland in 1876 at Bonar, Sutherland is the right man.

Thanks a lot. I hadn't even considered that one because of the age and place.

Of course his parents set up a whole new challenge. Roll on the earlier census records.

Thought I'd post this separately in case you had viewed my earlier reply.

I found the marriage of Eliza MACKENZIE and Geo SUTHD in 1815 by looking through the batch numbers via the Hugh Wallis site.
