Hi Joette
Nearly forgot aboot you pal.
Not sure if you know this wee site

http://www.dwalker.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk ... 0Index.htm

But it is well worth a visit
The cd is a good buy and handy for quick searches.
Unfortunately, I have no spare copies and my back-up one is my Laptop bag for reference on my travels.
THE disk is well worth the cash if the offer is still available.
I should put a donation to the site for the amount of times I've used it, but so far have not.
Not so good Davie.

I had been in the dunnies the day digging out some tomes for the sale.

http://www.standrewsandstgeorges.org.uk ... k_sale.php

Came across a couple of Fasti’s.
Cannot even mind the last time I saw a copy in a bookshop.
Will be in touch on these later.

Hi Davie,

A friend of mine posted the following link on our university discussion board, from which you can download the Fasti Ecclesiae Scoticanae, as well as other Fastis:

Thanks for that link, Chris!
I think the site is overwhelmed by the response... the download is s-l-o-w!!! Another problem is that, unless I'm missing something, there is no indication of which volume you are downloading until you have done so. I suggest first choosing a txt download, which is quick and then checking which volume it is before you do the pdf with the images of the pages (large file)
Thanks again-- great stuff! :D
Sarah

Later: Having checked down the page, this is the order of volumes of the Fasti Ecclesiae Scoticanae (skipping over the other Fasti on the page.) I note that the volume numbers at least are given for the Fasti Ecclesiae Hibernicae (Ireland)

-SYNODS OF MERSE AND TEVIOTDALE, DUMFRIES, AND GALLOWAY
-SYNOD OF ABERDEEN AND MORAY
-SYNOD OF LOTHIAN AND TWEEDDALE
-SYNODS OF FIFE, AND OF ANGUS AND MEARNS
-SYNODS OF ARGYLL, AND OF PERTH AND STIRLING
-SYNOD OF GLASGOW AND AYR
-SYNODS OF ROSS, SUTHERLAND AND CAITHNESS , GLENELG, ORKNEY AND OF SHETLAND, THE CHURCH IN ENGLAND, IRELAND AND OVERSEAS
-SYNOD OF LOTHIAN AND TWEEDDALE (Again)
-MINISTERS OF THE CHURCH FROM DATE OF PUBLICATION OF VOLUMES I-VII, 1914-28, TO UNION OF THE CHURCHES, 2nd OCTOBER 1929, AND ADDENDA AND CORRIGENDA 1560-1949

Absolutely fabulous Chris,
Best free downloads I have ever seen.
As Sarah says, a tad slow, but soooo worth it.
And thanks for putting them in order Sarah, big help.
I only came back from a book fair in Bath yesterday, and passed the site on to my troops on E-mail.
So far the day I have had nine replies, all raving about it.
Mind you, maist o’ ma lot wur ravin tae begin wey.
Thanks again
Davie

How best to access the info on a minister?

The various volumes are arranged as groups of synods. Each volume has an index which can be searched using the <Ctrl><F> technique.

As far as I'm aware there is no overall index that covers all the volumes.

An alternative is to print off the separate indexes so that they can be searched off-line (always assuming that the set-up of these PDF files is such that the pages can be printed, - I haven't tried ............. ).

But then, maybe some kind soul could create a document including all the separate indexes, - again this will depend on the security settings of the PDF files, i.e. whether or not the "copy and paste" function can be used.

Hi All

I am really surprised. It states that the members of the Church of Scotland are only 12% of the population. I thought that most Scots were presbyterians, something like 60% of the population. Does anyone know what church in Scotland had the largest membership?

Regards

Sheila
