Hello
i have uploaded to the gallery(for admin approval) a BC which i think shows Twins
http://talkingscot.com/gallery/displayi ... ?pos=-1206
i'm having problems making out all of the details and would appreciate some help please.I could make out the parents marriage in the June 1871 but when i search for it using Alexander Chalmers & Mary ? i can't find it have tried CHA* etc .
the reason i am on this trail is on a new website launched today called Edinburgh ancestors, i spotted a Alexander Chalmers born 1849 died 1920 and i have an elusive Alexander Chalmers born abt 1849 south leith that i have never been able to find after the 1851 census ,anyhow listed below him is a George Sinclair Chalmers well the combination of Sinclair& Chalmers looked a possibility worth checking out ,as my Alexander's mother had Sinclair as her maiden name, but this hard to decipher cert is all i have been able to come up with.
kind regards
maggie

Hi Maggie
The births were at 30 Leith Walk, Leith. Father's occupation looks like Provision Merchant's shopman
The place of marriage is not easy to make out - I might be wrong here but my guess is that the registrar is my old friend Mr. Archer - am I right??
Place of marriage looks like Johnstone (the one in Renfrewshire? If so it comes under Abbey Parish according to Genuki).
I thought for a moment that Mary's m.s. might be Morrison, but I'm not so sure at all about that one. Having a blank moment.... which is not unusual when faced with Mr Archer!!
I can't see it as Sinclair so far...
best wishes
Lesley

Hello Lesley
thanks for your reply
so Mr Archer has caused you problems in the past
Hmn.... he sure is causing me a few problems now
Do you think the girls name is Elspeth?
i think i will take a look at the 1901 census for the family to see if that sheds any light .
Thanks once again lesley you sure have got more info out of it than i have
kind regards

it's ELIZABETH H H CHALMERS age 9 on the census which the birth cert does in no way resemble to me .
Mary the mother was born Johnstone so that looks like it could well have been the marriage place Well done Lesley .
I'm most probably barking up the wrong tree with this one as the fathers place of birth is Eay----- ??Stirling.
It was Alexander born 1849 ish that's mother was a Sinclair

Hello Jack
to answer your question I have no idea at all
first & last sighting was the 1851 census in south Leith
The CHALMERS I'm afraid are destined to always be a mystery but something seems to always draw me back to them so many lose ends and what if's.I know on the various postings i have made about them on here i think i have had all the HELP that is possible (for which i'm very gratefull )Prehaps now is the time to put them into my tree with just what knowledge i am totally confident about and add a footnote about the speculative side of it ie was Elizabeths mother Elizabeth Dryburgh or Janet Chalmers ,Did Janet Chalmers ms Sinclair die between 1851-1855 leaving William free to marry /co habit with a 3rd wife. And prehaps Alexander too died beteen 1851-1855.Oh and last but not least is the William Chalmers death i found married to Agnes really my one.
Thanks once again Jack
kind regards
