Dechiphering Help

I just downloaded a marriage for Thomas Sanderson and Elizabeth Purdie on 27/5/1698 in West Linton. I can just make out a few words such as the names and date of marriage but I have no clue about the bits in between.

Hi Andy
There don't seem to have been any images dated as being uploaded today or awaiting approval. Perhaps try uploading again, and I'll keep an eye open for it.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Andy
Glad it has arrived!
The first word I was puzzled by was the parish that Thomas seems to be from - I make it Edlestoun - could it be Eddleston (Peebles)?

Best wishes

Hi Andy,

My first run of it is:

Thomas Sanderson in Edlestoun parish having produced a ________ _____ __ ________ & Elspeth Purdie in this parish gave up their names for proclamation in order to marriage upon the 27th day of May 1698 & being proclaimed thrie severall lords dayes the 29th ____ of the said ____ ___ & sabbath days of June __ _______ _____ ___.

My feeling is that he produced a document from his home parish showing his eligiblity to be married. I am still having a go at that part of the deciphering. I agree with Lesley that he was from Eddleston parish (Peebles-shire).

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Andy,

On putting Lesley's and my interpretations together, I now suggest:

Thomas Sanderson in Edlestoun parish having produced a sessional testificat for himself & Elspeth Purdie in this parish gave up their names for proclamation in order to marriage upon the 27th day of May 1698 & being proclaimed thrie severall lords dayes the 29th vid: of the said month fifth & twelfth days of June therof scribed testimony thereof.

This is still open to debate.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Andy & Andrew
only thing I'm not sure about is that word
therof scribed testimony thereof

Looks to me like a word which is: ?ecerbed
Could mean "scribed" in the end... just not sure there.

Best wishes
Lesley
