Mary Whyte's informant.

Post by Dennis » Sun Jul 22, 2007 4:06 am

Hi,

I can't read the son-in-law informant's name on Mary Whyte's 1934 DC.

It looks like Alex something.

Thank you Tom & David,

My hope was for a clue to which of Mary's daughter's that Alex married. Since Mary died in 1934, I thought there was a chance that he had married a daughter in or prior to 1931.

Hi Dennis,

Could it be this one?

1904 HENDERSON ALEXANDER WHYTE ANNIE MORRISON FORFAR /ANGUS 288/A0 0077
Mary

Hi emanday,

Thanks for the try but she is not the one. Mary had three daughters;
Martha b1884 who liked to marry Airth brothers, Lizzie b1892 and Maggie b1900. It looks like the window of 1931-1934 is where I'm most likely to find the marriage.

Hi Dennis

Annie Morrison Whyte is the one you are after. On her marriage cert her mother is Mary Kinnear afterwards married to John Whyte. You will find Ann's birth cert on SP as Ann Kinnear in 1878 - no father's name given. Mary Kinnear married John Whyte in 1881.

Hope this helps

Susan.

Hi emanday & Susan,

Your replies sorted that out for me:) Its interesting that since Mary Kinnear had two children prior to her marriage to John Whyte why do neither Ann b1878 nor Charles b1879 show up on Mary's 1881 census?
Though Ann's bc in 1878 does show her as illegitimate, there is no Charles Robert Kinnear because John Whyte had a legitimate son, thus the finding of Charles Robert Whyte, with his 1st wife Elizabeth Binny Mason (1857-1881). However, since John didn't marry Elizabeth Binny Mason until Dec. 1878 and Ann was born in June of 1878 making her the illegitimate daughter of Mary Kinnear & ?? Wonder how much Binny knew about the goings on between John & Mary:)

Life is funny like that. dennis

Quite possibly, they were living with relatives, in many cases like this that is usually their grandparents. I've found examples of this amongst my own rellies.

Ah! Well! That's just another one of those wee mysteries that keeps us all addicted to this

Silly thought, I know, but have you got the 1881 census for John and Binny? No chance Mary's bairns were living with their father and his new wife, I suppose? I've seen that before

Hi emanday,

John's 1881 census has only him and that he is a widower of Binny.
Their child Charles Roberts Whyte's census has him living with a family named Robertson, a widow with a son & daughter, and several boarders at 3 Glamis Road in Forfar.
