Hi there,
I am trying with not much luck on the irish site to look for ancestors on my husband's side. In particular a Robert Young whose daughter was my husband's gran - Sarah Young.
I have no info on him except that he married Mary Jane Bruce 1903 in Ireland (i have exhausted that so far) Mary Jane was born in 1865 so i am going on the assumption he is roughly the same age -+ 10 years.
As he is still alive on Sarah's marriage cert in 1924 (Anderston address 111 Finnieston St) i had an idea that he might have went to Glasgow also.
Is anyone able to do a look up for me on death certs to see if he is there -i would imagine Sarah would be the witness.
Thanks anyone,
Ailsa
may be a long shot...

Hi Ailsa,
If he was born around the same time as his wife it would seem likely that he could have died before 1956, the cutoff year for SP. Have you not had any success searching for his DC between 1924 and 1956 on there?
Also, although he was still alive when his daughter got married in 1924, it might not indicate that he came to Glasgow too.
I have some MC's where Irish parents are shown as living, but I know they never came over with their children.

Hi Mary,
Thanks for replying so quickly (always get a quick response from this forum) wonderful.
I have searched DC on SP Robert Young between 1920 -1943 age 45 - 75 born 1865 +- 10yrs it comes up with 33 in the Glasgow area and at 5 credits a time it is just too much.
In Belfast he shows up in the street Directory in 1907 in Boyd Street but no other year after that i can find. No Sarah either. I will have to wait for the census of 1911 to come out. We always assumed she was orphaned but discovered she had parents and obviously the father was still alive in 1924.
Sarah was 17 when she was married in Glasgow - that's what got me thinking that she might have came with the father earlier. She used to say she was brought up in a convent or somewhere where nuns lived.Another guess is that her mother died when she was young and the father put her somewhere like a home? i have tried the other irish forums but not with much luck.
This was the mother Mary Jane's 2nd marriage so she may have been an only child.
As i say it is only a long shot but any ideas are welcome.
