I find that if I turn around 6 times, squint and then shut my eyes, I can see "brickmaker"
Looks more likely than shoemaker, anyway!

Searching for a *maker in Udny in the 1841 census brings up a lone watchmaker and quite a few shoemakers... but there is no way I can get "shoe" out of that writing!
