POW Camps in Morayshire

Does anyone have any knowledge of or resources regarding POW camps in Morayshire, specifically around Alves / Elgin / Forres / Rafford / Dyke? I found a photo of my granny's of a young man with the inscription 'Remember P.O.W. Peter, 24th August 1947' written on the back. My granny has lived her ent...

Seeking copy of 'Speyside Monumental Inscriptions' by Alison Mitchell

Does anyone have a copy of the above lying about and would be able to have a look to see if there's an inscription for a Mary McIntosh nee Grant, likely interred at Duthil. Mary died at some point between 1846 (birth of her youngest child) and 1851, with her husband John McIntosh remarrying in 1853....

Solid Granite Wall: James McGilveray or McGillivray, Shoemaker in Aberdeen

Afternoon all, First time posting here in a while, I'm hoping for some advice on the above brick wall, which I've been banging my head against for some time now. I'm trying to trace my 4x great-grandparents, but having limited success. I'll lay out what I have below, starting with my 3x great-grandf...

Re: Advice RE: finding missing birth certificate

Well Wilma, now I feel exceptionally silly because I missed that one! I hardly ever use fuzzy matching, but clearly I should start because it found what name variants couldn't! I'm such a spoon! Thank you for this, and for reminding me to use fuzzy match in future! EDIT: Also, interesting about the ...

Advice RE: finding missing birth certificate

Good morning all, Hope someone can provide advice on the below as I'm rapidly running out of avenues to explore. Prior to marrying my great-grandmother, my great-grandfather (Robert George Strathdee, 1887 - 1951) was married to Isabella Graham (1882 - 1918) and they had four children. Isabella herse...

Help identifying miltary dress in photograph

Afternoon all! I have very limited experience with military records, and the few military men in my family tree served almost exclusively with the Seaforth Highlanders (couple Gordon Highlanders, and a pre-amalgamation 92nd Highlander in there too) so this is stumping me. My dad gave me a collection...

Re: Seeking opinions on McIntosh relative with questionable parentage

Hi Andrew, On the 1911 census Jessie and Alexander had 11 children, all still living. I know that the remaining child was a girl (I have a letter from Annabella to her daughter stating there were 11 sons, and family stories / knowledge say that Robert was one of 14). I believe that the last child is...

Re: Seeking opinions on McIntosh relative with questionable parentage

Sarah, The more I read and re-read my own post (trying to pick holes / convince myself either way!) the more I'm inclined to say that it seems the most likely option given the lack of other feasible avenues. I've not looked any further into Kennethina's life other than what I posted above, so I did ...

Seeking opinions on McIntosh relative with questionable parentage

Good morning all. It's been a long time since I've posted here, but I'm hoping some of you will be able to take a moment to read my research relating to Jessie Webster McIntosh and basically tell me if you think I've come to the right conclusion. Fresh pair of eyes and all that! I'll lay out the evi...
