Re: Baby death
Try the opposite approach - input the first name(s) and the year only. That may produce hundreds of results. Sort them by surname and see if it comes up (possibly mis-spelled in the index). Failing that if you know where to expect the birth to have been registered, sort them by RD Name and see if th...

Re: Baby death
So long as there was a 'live' birth, there should be both a birth and a death certificate. In my family tree [my generation], there was a child who survived only 15 hours; born prematurely at home about 2.10am and died at 6pm the same day in the maternity hospital. The birth and death were both regi...

Re: Ella Mary Maclennan
Regarding the address listed above, 62 Colinton Road - that house and its neighbouring petrol station were demolished around 20 years back, and the combined site is now the site of a Tesco Express supermarket and a funeral director's premises. It is about three miles from home for me. 1940s OS map v...

Re: Electoral Registers 1939-1950
The online telephone directories on Ancestry didn't show this family either. However, back in those days only a minority of folks would have had a phone.

Re: Valuation Roll Info
I have looked at quite a few valuation rolls, and there doesn't seem like a consistent method for the order of the properties in a tenement stair. You do well if you find one that tells you which level each flat is on (1F, 2F, etc.). One that I have been looking at for a local history project is a t...

Re: Helen Gray 1916
Hi Annette, The following article appeared in The Scotsman of 05 January 1916. At a late hour on Monday night a young woman, Helen Gray (22), who resided at 103 Dale Street, Tradeston, was found dead on the floor of her house. Marks of violence were discovered on the face and back of the head. At th...

Re: Helen Gray 1916
Hi Annette, If she died of a heart attack after the assault, would there have been a charge of murder? If the person who made the assault was convicted, there could have been an argument that the victim died of a heart attack, therefore no murder took place. It may be that if there was a conviction ...

Does it resemble any of the pictures seen on this webpage which lists a few interpretations of IHS.

Re: Old Monkland Poohouse - Look Up Please - Dougan 1911-1913
