Re: Real Expert Advice Required
William Irvine Clark lived to a ripe old age as did his "half" brother William Lewis Clark (in the 1901 census he was named Lewis but the birth cert is William Lewis). No father mentioned on the Birth Cert but the during the Session Court Jane named William Lewis, a sailor, as the father - he didn't...

Real Expert Advice Required
I'm in a quandary, and long time TalkingScot users know I'm very thorough. I have an illegitimate William Lewis Clark born 1896, three years after his mother's husband died. William's mother and her Husband, John Clark, a butcher, were married in Paisley and had at least five legitimate children bef...

Geelong Records
Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I'm currently hunting for information on Robert Hugh Leckie who was born abt 1862 in Geelong, Victoria. His 1885 marriage certificate in County Durham names his father as John, a grocer, deceased. I've found a Post office directory for Geelong from...

Re: Transcription Project
Didn't receive any information via e-mail. However, the next time I logged onto the site other options were available. I think there are destructions on how to use the site. I opted for the incomplete entries and, within seconds, was transcribing. Then I chose a virgin page, there were no headings s...

Re: using 1881 lds cds
Windows XP Virtual does work. When I got home last night I tried it. Had a couple of pints with a colleague after work today and we're POSITIVE that the full set of U.K. discs can be uploaded onto a 32Gb pen drive. The Scottish part would only need an 8Gb pen drive. Since the original data is struct...

Re: using 1881 lds cds
Hi folks, The still excellent LDS 1881 discs should work on Windows 7. They were created YEARS ago as a very basic (but quite large) Database. The problem is with the VIEWER, which is just an executable file leading to a Front End search page that calls out delimitted information from the discs. Thi...

Re: Transcription Project
Signing up to the site is very easy, you can also indicate your willingness to transcribe. However, I've just spent half-an-hour trying to find HOW one gauges their own level of transcription ability or even how the images are sent. They have sections on the site with descriptors of the ability requ...

Re: trying to trace family members as yet unknown.
Hi Eileen and Ina, For a few years now the DiGROS system has been in operation within Scotland. It's now possible to go into ANY Regisrty Office and order three forms of information right up to to last year! If you're not sure of the date or places involved there is a search cost added. However, if ...

Wrong Side of the Blanket
You know how frustrating it is to find a birth certificate without a father! I've been in this game a LONG time but believe I've tracked down an unnamed father. I've been researching family lines for a pal. One of his Great-Great Grandfather was a serial Philanderer. He lived with, but never married...
