There is public WIFI although from comments I have seen it can be patchy / slow.

Re: James Gillespie - 344 Holmhead St, Glasgow
Looks like it is 34 1/2 as suggested, as the 1861 census shows entries for 34 1/2 between schedules 42 and 53 of enumeration district 28 (using Ancestry enter 28 into ED, 644/1 into Registration Number and then you can step through the entries by entering the schedule numbers into the Household sche...

Re: SP Centre
It is your SP online login not your SP Centre login that you need to use now (see Booking a Search Place). You can save a record to your account for the same price as you do online or print it out for 25p (1 credit). Informed of the change by my local family history society who arrange evening visit...

Re: Council Elections During WWI
I think there was a suspension of elections during WW11 unless they were required. I have a great uncle who was provost of a local burgh who was elected in 1936 but resigned in 1939 although he apparently was eligible to continue due to the war.

Re: Army states John McLaren died 17 January 1859
I have had a look at the deaths of Johns in Crieff in 1859 (only 11). There is the death of a John McCulloch age 48 with a mother's maiden name of Mclaren. There could have be a mistake made as it is likely that the informant would not have known him leaing to errors.

Re: SP credits
There is/was a problem with the initial startup library voucher, this used a special username which identified it as a library one and then allowed you to buy top up ones afterwards. The problem is the new site does not use usernames but email addresses so it is not possible to register it unless yo...

Re: SP credits
Not sure what the current position on the library voucher is but I think they have been/ or are being discontinued. My local Family History Society sell discounted vouchers for ScotlandsPeople.

Re: Records in Poor Relief Institutions
Kirsty Wilkinson has a PDF file called " Records of the Scottish Poor" on her website at http://www.myainfolk.com/Resources.html which gives the details of the poor records across Scotland.

Re: 11 Randolph Crescent, Edinburgh
The was an episode of "The Secret History of Our Streets: Scotland" which was broadcast last year on the Moray Estate in Edinburgh. I cannot remember which house they showed that had been a nursing home. Apparently they have a lift large enough to take a trolley between floors and what is now the ki...
