Re: New Look Scotland's People Website Coming 3rd September 2024
Sadly after weeks of usage I'm still not impressed - glad I'm not alone. I've had to reduce the text/zoom to 50% to have everything on my screen [though it's now a single middle column!] What's even more annoying is the lack of info on the page tabs - I've no idea which one I've opened for Birth, De...

Re: Duncan Stewart (Bonnybridge) Ltd, builders (set. 1893)
Would Company House not be able to give you more information? I'm not sure if they only deal with current companies or go far into historical records. Alternatively the archives at Callender House in Falkirk may have more information . BNA does have the Falkirk Herald digitalised so I expect you hav...

Re: Death of farmer John Graham, born Slamannan 1891
Hooray, We love breaking break walls on TS. I had just popped John Graham Limerigg into Find My Past and only one hit of a newspaper article, the two dates looked decidedly odd but I searched the BNA anyway and it came up trumps. I do wonder why she waited so long to put the announcement in? I usual...

Re: Death of farmer John Graham, born Slamannan 1891
Good, I was considering the newspapers archive and valuation rolls as a possibility but didn't have the addresses etc. The Black Loch is very close to Lanarkshire geographically - so I'd consider New Monkland as a search possibility too. https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=13.2&lat=55.91507&lon=-3...

Re: Death of farmer John Graham, born Slamannan 1891
John Graham/Graeme is a rather common name so it's not going to be easy. His wife and daughter both seem to die in Clackmannanshire: Janet Downs Penman or Graham aged 64 in 1961 Isabella in 2008 aged 89 [other surname Ovens she married Samuel in 1938]. I assume you have that information and he wasn'...

Re: New Look Scotland's People Website Coming 3rd September 2024
I finally got in to the new site at 12:20. sadly first impressions aren't that great. a. It's running very slowly - could be everyone has jumped on though! b. the 'side bar' for refining results has gone - you have to keep scrolling back to the top and re-click 'refine results' [then wait] before yo...

Re: Gretna Green in reverse!?
The first answer that sprang to mind was that if he was of the Aristocracy then his family may very well have had a second home in Cumberland and they were living there at the time. I'd have a look further in to the families and their property etc and see if there's answers to be found that way. If ...

Re: Prisons on the 1911 census?
I'm not too familiar with the prison systems, but I know that the prison can sometimes depend on the crime/length of sentence, as often they are very far from home for frequent family visits. Such a short sentence, you'd think would be served close to home. Perth Prison records on SP do go up to 192...

Re: McDonald and MacQuarrie families
hi Gayna, [TS_welcome] That's very interesting information you have there. The original poster hasn't posted for some time, but hopefully they'll get an notification that you have responded here. It's quite amazing how much more information has made it on-line, and is easily accessible, compared to ...
