There’s an article in the Brisbane Courier, 7th April, 1888, page 5, concerning the arrival of the Merkara but you’ll have to browse to it. Possibly other articles about the same time a search may pick up.

Yes Alan. Between the Brisbane Courier and 19th Century British Papers I am nearly cross eyed !!!! Great fun though.
