Kilmalcolm and Houston are just a few miles apart, Bridge of Weir makes up the other side of a triangle.
I'm not sure where the Killellan Carol mentioned comes into the picture, but there's a Kilallan marked on the present day Kilmalcolm- Houston Road.
An 1855/61 map shows a Rowantreehill to the south east of Kilmalcolm village, and there is a street bearing the name today.

Thanks Wilma,
When I googled them, it said that Houston and Killellan were two parishes which merged in 1771 I think it was and Houston pretty much became dominant.
Also, there is a Castle Semple somewhere in Renfrewshire with extensive family going back to the 1500's. Lots for Jan to look at here!

The only Alexander Semple of the medical (?) variety I can find anywhere in the newspapers is:
Freeman's Journal and Daily Commercial Advertiser (Dublin, Ireland),
- June 29, 1838 - In an article about the Kilkenny Corporation there’s a very brief reference to a Mr. Alexander Semple being re-elected Coroner.
- July 23, 1840 inquest conducted by Mr. Alexander Semple, city coroner, at Drakeland near Dublin.
- October 3, 1842 sworn in again as coroner Kilkenny.
- October 29, 1857 Marriage of Alexander Semple Jun. of Kilkenny to Lydia Elizabeth Farrant.
The Belfast News-Letter (Belfast, Ireland),
- February 4, 1869 Alexander, son of the late Alexander Semple of Kilkenny elected a pupil of Masonic Orphan Boy’s School.
That’s him in this 1841 book of accounts for Kilkenny
http://books.google.com.au/books?id=wn4 ... ner%22&lr=
Probably nothing to do with anything but I just thought I’d mention it.
Alan
UPDATE
Freeman's Journal, July 5, 1833 mentions Alex Semple as Coroner in Kilkenny so looks less likely to be relevant.
