Hi Jan:

I went back to the IGI and had a look at the names of all the parents of all the Duncan Campbells born in Argyll in 1825, without any luck.

On SP, Duncan Campbell, son of Angus born Argyll, Jan 1, 1824 - Dec 31, 1826 leaving out the name of the mother (in case the current minister didn't record the mother) brings up 2 Duncans, but if you throw in Kilninian, it goes back down to 0 hits. I don't know why he might have been christened elsewhere, but perhaps they were between ministers at the time ... really stretching here.

Hi Frances
I am only going by the census where he was born so not 100% sure
I have looked on IGI and found all the other Children of Angus Campbell and Ann McDonald and then I search the whole of Scotland for a Duncan mother Ann McDonald and father Angus Campbell and found nothing.......It's funny that all the other children are there but not Duncan on IGI and on Scotlands people
I will just have to keep searching I am sure he is there somewhere
Cheers Jan

Here's my efforts at trying to find Ann. This lady is living with her daughter Ann who married Lachlan Beaton. Unfortunately the Beaton family disappear - maybe they went abroad.:? -
Ann junior gives her place of birth as Rareg on Ancestry.

1861 -
Ann Campbell
Age: 72
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1789
Relationship: Mother-in-law
Gender: Female
Where born: Killmore, Argyllshire
Registration Number: 544
Registration district: Kilninian and Kilmore
Civil Parish: Kilninian and Kilmore
County: Argyll
Address: Drimnacrosh
Occupation: Formerly Farmer's Wife

1851 -
Name: Ann Campbell
Age: 69
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1782
Relationship: Head
Gender: Female
Where born: Kilninian & Kilmore, Argyll
Parish Number: 549
Civil Parish: Kilninian and Kilmore
Town: Tobermory
County: Argyll
Address: Reraig
Occupation: Farmers Wife :?

1841 from FREECEN -

Piece: SCT1841/549 Place: Tobermory -Argyllshire Enumeration District: 1
Civil Parish: Tobermory Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: -
Folio: 14 Page: 3
Address: Reraig

Surname First name(s) Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks
CAMPBELL Ann F 50 Farmer Argyllshire
CAMPBELL Neil M 20 Argyllshire
CAMPBELL John M 15 Argyllshire
CAMPBELL Ann F 13 Argyllshire
CAMPBELL Janet F 10 Argyllshire

Now how you can confirm that this is your Ann or not (or even if they are all the same Ann) is another story.

Regards,
Annette

hi Jan
An Angus Campbell and a Jean McDonald have a son Donald christened 24 JUL 1828 Kilninian, Argyll, Scotland in IGI (submission). I take you have traced this Donald forward and know what happened to him, just to ensure that Donald did not become known as Duncan somewhere along the line?

Stranger things have happened....
I spent a great deal of time looking for a birth of a Daniel some years back, only to eventually find that he was christened as Donald.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Jan
If there are two Johns the most likely suggestion would be that the first John died. Do you know what became of that Donald? If not he might be worth following, even if just to disprove that he is later called Duncan!

Best wishes
Lesley
