Hi Alan,

Many thanks...I see them!! It would be nice if it was still there but I won't hold my breath. I don't seem to have much luck with old houses still standing.

Anne H

Yes, it's still there.

I didn't know that was what it was called.

It sits at the end of a Private (gated) Road and you can't get anywhere near it. It was up for sale a few years ago and I went for a nosey but it was by appointment only - and I didn't have one!)

Hi Anne,

Is that Headswood Cottage or Headswood House you're talking about? Headswood House is currently up for sale...maybe my Ellis' are haunting it and they can't find a buyer. Maybe if I contact the estate agent they might be able to give me some info.

Worth a try! :)

I think I'll send them an email anyway to see if they know if there was a cottage there also (at one time). My lot lived at the cottage from at least 1922 to 1945 when the parents died.

Can't hurt to try!

Hi AnneH,

I've finally found my 1896 OS map of Denny. Headswood House, Headswood Cottage and Headswood Laundry are all shown on it. Headswood House is in the kink of the River Carron as Currie found but Headswood Cottage and Headswood Laundry are next to each other on the Denny Road. If it still exists it looks like it would be the house on the left (coming from Denny direction) just before the left turn onto the M876 motorway. I think there's still a house there but I haven't been past there for a while.

Hi Christine,

A map that actually mentions Headswood Cottage! :D I'll have to look at those maps again and find Denny Road.

This is exciting! Many thanks. :D

Cottage there in 1863 too:

No sign of the house on this or the 1865 map so it must have been built between then and 1896 as it's on Christine's map

Hi Anne(s),

You may struggle with the Rettie's house sale angle. The sale was in 2005.

I've been trying to visualise it but can't I'll need to go for a drive along there again [usually we just turn left for home there]
