The David Mitchell episode had him logging in to the forum and asking for information on his ancestors. :D

The glimpse of the forum may have been brief, but plainly it was long enough for people to take note of us and find their way here. There has been a significant number of new members in joined up in the last few hours.

Thanks to the Who Do You Think You Are team.

All the best,

AndrewP

Steam coming out of ears!!!!

My Sky box decided to develop a severe case of hiccups only minutes before the programme started.

BBC TV won’t work for me here in Australia.

To save any confusion about Scott’s Husky at the bottom of the Garden story. http://www.kensparkes-sunbeamalpine.co. ... /husky.jpg

My Welsh Ancestors had Fairies at the bottom of their Garden! No kidding!

javascript:emoticon(':D') Cheers Alan, I hadn't thought that some folk outside of the UK might not know what a Hillman Husky was (I didn't until I assembled it on the lawn!) There is still a much older car buried underneath the Hillman plot, though it'll take considerably more effort to remove it and drag it through the house.

Anyway, I won't blether on about something not really related to this thread!

However, any pics of those fairies Alan?

Best,

Scott

Ok Aussies, while we're on the subject of WDYTYA.....

Is there anywhere here to watch it besides Foxtel on a Wednesday evening (then repeated on the weekend) because Foxtel in their usual fashion are running repeat after repeat episodes, over and over again? I keep getting excited about watching it only to realise after a minute that I have already seen it! Grrr!

Hi Folks it’s great to have the forum back after the little hiatus, just as well it was brought back online before the transmission of the great piece of free advertising that was on WDYTYA.

I thought David Mitchell’s story was interesting as are most of the subjects on this series, but I was a bit perturbed with the line taken about John Forbes’ Will. There seemed to be much made of the fact that gifts to his daughters were for their exclusive use the program seemed to make out that this was in some way a controlling issue.

My take on this and I’ve seen in quite a few of my ancestors wills is to circumvent the ‘Jus Mariti’ line where a married woman’s goods and money is de facto her husbands to do with as he see’s fit. I have seen cases in my family where a, shall we say an, unapproved marriage has the statement that the legacy is made for the exclusive right of the daughter/female in question.
I'd like to be apathetic but I really can't be bothered.

Looking for blacksheep & not finding any with
Groats & Stevensons in Orkney, Hood's in Dundee/Angus, Mclaren's in Clackmannan and Jolly's in Kincardineshire. There may be more!

Hello Nina,

I only know about the SBS TV series but I don’t know where they’re up to or when the latest UK episodes will get to them.

Hello Scott,

No pictures unfortunately but there have been a few stories floating around over the years about happenings at Carn Bentyrch near Llangybi. http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/sit ... tyrch.html My lot came from the farms about a kilometre to the east of that location. http://streetmap.co.uk/place/Carn_Benty ... 452611.htm

All the best,
Alan
