Hi Gordon,
What do you know about Charles Lawrences' family--parents, where he was born etc.? Might help in tracking him and the two children down after the 1860's.

There is also a William Robertson working as a ploughman on the farm of Hillhead, Huntly in 1861. He is 19 and was born in Cairnie, Aberdeenshire.
It would be interesting to know where Elspeth was working at the same time?

Carol,
The one who married Charles Lawrence was living with her parents at George Street, Huntly in 1861.

Gordon,
2 more questions before I go to bed. Where was Jane living in 1901.
Did she give an occupation for her father? Was he a blacksmith?
Regards,
Annette

I have two possible William Robertsons on the 1861 census. The one you have identified above who was a 19yr old ploughman and anotherwho is lodging with James Stewart and is a tile maker. The address is "BRIGGS" in Huntly. The registrar in Huntly did not know where that was. The tile maker was born in Boyndie which is not far away either.

I am confident Jane is living in Headrooms Farm on the outskirts of Aberchirder with William Stevenson. On the 1901 census One of her children (James Robertson) is with the family and employed as a servant.
On her marrage cert, she declares her father as a labourer
