At least it looks as though it's only up to the end of the year. If it is a staffing issue, they are maybe waiting for permission to advertise or for someone to come back after being away. It does say you can still get access on a Saturday in special circumstances!

Re: Mitchell Library - Archives
If I lived there, and the only time I could get to the library was out of working hours, I would be incensed!!! As it is I am so disappointed for you all....not to mention it cuts out a lot of time that the wonderful helpers at this site, who look up Poorhouse records etc for overseas people like me, are able to go....
This needs protesting about I think! It is obvious that from now on not a single working (full-time) Glaswegian can access the library! How is that looking after the citizens? This is disgraceful! Whyt could they not shut an hour earlier a few days a week so they could open at least Saturday mornings?
Isn't anyone going to petition the powers-that-be? Please people, don't just let them do this!!! It disadvantages a whole city!

Why the complaints ? There is a Commonwealth Games to be paid for in five years time.
A neighbour of mine works in the Glasgow Room and 'his/her' inside stories of the lack of maintenance on the building would frighten the French.
Expect lots less from the the hived off Sport & Culture as we get nearer to 2014.

I have just found out that they are short staffed and that it is a temporary measure up to the end of the year, after which normal service will resume.Archiver wrote:At least it looks as though it's only up to the end of the year. Feels a bit weird quoting my own message!

Does anyone have any new info on the situation at the Mitchell? I really want to go but due to work commitments can only manage a Saturday.

I think everything's back to normal - might be a good idea giving them a wee ring just to check though.

Re: Mitchell Library - Archives
Hello Everyone
I was there on Friday (had to take a day off work) , was advised by a member of staff to phone and request items during the week and the archives staff would leave it with the reception staff for me to view on a Saturday. I hope this helps all who can only go on a Saturday.
