Oh I don't know Tracy :o
Perhaps they're being phased out.
I don't think they are Vista compatible (at least I only use mine on my old laptop).

Perhaps someone who knows will explain? :)

Best wishes,
Meg

Hi Meg,

After I installed Vista, I never succeeded in getting the LDS discs to run. I believe it can be done, but I never found out how. I went to the LDS helpline, but was not successful there. I don't know if the problem was Vista in all its forms, or the 64-bit version that I run.

My understanding is that the issue is to do with the viewer program rather than the data format. If the LDS developed an updated viewer program, and sold it at a reasonable price (preferably to download, otherwise on CD by post), I am sure they could make money from it as well as keeping customers happy.

All the best,

AndrewP

Considering the length of time Vista had been distributed on new PC's, you'd have thought LDS would have come up with an "fix" by now.

After all, who is is going to buy these discs if the viewer program can't do the job on a widely used (albeit widely unloved) operating system?

I got a new viewer disc sent all the way from Salt Lake City (to Scotland) free of charge a few years ago when I got a new laptop which had Vista. (I think they were sick of my complaining e-mails LOL!!)

The 1881 discs will run with it, but not the Vital Records - one step forward and two steps back!!

I knew there was a reason I only view them on my old laptop! :)

Thanks for the explanation, Andrew.

Anyone know if the Vital Records viewer will run on Windows 7? I've upgraded my Vista laptop to Win 7 but have too much precious stuff on my XP desktop to risk that yet.

(Actually, the thought of trying to reinstall all those useful wee programs I've accumulated over the years terrifies me!)

Hi all
When I bought both the packages, I had to change the way it read. I clicked some box in windows thingy allowing it to run in XP or older mode.
But for the life of me I can't remember how I actually did it
Buying them from the local LDS centre was very reasonable, I didn't get charged postage in fact I was surprised at the cost :D

Found it Stew.

Right click on the program .exe file in Programs, (not a desktop shortcut), select the Compatability tab. There is a tick box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" Select the Windows version from the drop list. Click OK.
