If you GOOGLE Earth Mount Maunganui New Zealand, you will see a very pretty and popular harbour. After WWII the MARK family annually booked, for the summer months, the prime harbour motor camp site, nestled into the base of the hill and under the pine trees. Slightly elevated, it looked out across the whole harbour. Across the front of the caravan, by the awning opening, was a polished wooden sign saying SELDOM INN. The parents, and then family members during the school holidays, made great use of that caravan, but with a boat moored on the harbour, and the ocean only a couple of hundred meters away, you could never catch them in, except at night.
My Grand Parents site was further from the beach. The caravan and tent was moved on to their site Labour Weekend (end of October), and stayed until Easter. Our high season. In the 1950's I grew up with a two week family holiday to die for, and a freedom to roam, that you can not afford your children today.
Them were the days. Alan SHARP.
