The Scout handshake is a sign that you are not carrying a weapon as you would have a shield in the left hand & a sword in the right as it would have been during Baden-Powell's time in the Boer War.I am a very proud Beaver Scout Leader & we have to teach the left handed handshake to all our boys as part of their making their Investement & making of their Scout Promise which is
"I promise to do my best
To be kind and helpful
And to love God"
The Scout/Cub Promise is slightly different but we keep it basic for the six year olds.
Baden-Powell was the founder of the Scouting movement.

Ive been having a read and it says that when there were wars on that the women wore uniform style clothes, whether in this case it is I dont know, only other one who wore that style of hats were the Girls Brigade, Id go for trendy dress wtih the gauntlets.
