Thanks Ailsa,
I have that information and I think you are right in thinking that Marion Martin was his second wife as his children from the first marriage appear on a census with the children he had with Marion.

Hello Eliza,
My Mitchells are Glasgow based. They were butchers and I have a G G Grandfather who was married three times, first to Johana Fraser, then Marion McKay and then Helen Renwick. His name was Thomas Mitchell and he was a lithographic printer.

Can anyone help me to find out when Jedburgh Avenue in Rutherglen was built? I would also like to know who the builders were.

Hello Mitchell,
Jedburgh Avenue Rutherglen
http://maps.google.com/maps?t=h&hl=en&i ... 7,,0,13.96
The earliest entry in Google Books appears to be 1905.
http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&t ... =&aql=&oq=
The 1904-05 seems to be the first Glasgow Directory in which Jedburgh Avenue makes an appearance.
http://www.archive.org/stream/postoffic ... 5/mode/2up
Have a look at the last entry, dated 30 April, 1903, on this Edinburgh Gazette page. Thomas Scott, Contractor, Ettrick House, No. 1 Jedburgh Avenue, Rutherglen, is taking action against a Cartage Contractor. http://www.edinburgh-gazette.co.uk/issu ... /pages/461
Could it be the old Contractor builds first house and moves in while he builds the rest scenario?
Hope that helps,
Alan

Thanks for your help Alan. I thought it was around 1900 so the report of 1903 seems to point to that time.

Sorry - nothing to do with your family but here is the Walter Paterson who was murdered.
1851 Gorbals -
George Paterson 60
Marion Paterson 62
Walter Paterson 30 Engineer born Glasgow
Jean Paterson 25
Barbra Paterson 25
Mary Paterson 22
George Paterson 18
Murrar Robertson 1
1861 and 1871 census records find him at the 'Lunatic Asylum'. There is a death registered in 1876 of a Walter Paterson of the right age.
Regards,
Annette

Thanks to Annette and Bron. There may be a family link to the murdered Walter Paterson as it was mentioned in the trial and asylum records that he may have been a cousin of William Muir so I am trying to find the link with those Patersons to my Patersons. Unfortunately I still haven't found the death of John Paterson married to Marion Martin, Gorbals. His parents should be Walter Paterson and Elizabeth McKinlay.
Bron, you may be interested to know that the names are still going through the generations. My father was Thomas Hamilton Mitchell named after both his blood Grandfather Thomas Mitchell, who died in the asylum and his new Grandfather George Hamilton who was Margaret Wares Muir's second husband. Also my new grandson has the name Thomas after my father.
